Roles & Responsibilities:
Responsible for the technical management of the vessels under his charge which will include
but not limited to:
•Safe and efficient operation of vessel’s assigned to him
•Preparing operational budget, monitoring of deviations and keep a strict cost control on vessels' expenditures and take action needed to reduce costs to budget level
•Planning, controlling & managing all activities relating to maintenance, repairs, modifications, upgradation, dry docking of vessels
•Responsible for managing routine Class surveys of ship, audits, flag state inspections etc for the vessels and ensuring survey, certification requirements are met at all times
•Monitoring vessels ' performance trends and following up with remedial action
•Setting up maintenance standards and performance criteria for vessels in conjunction with shipboard management and ensuring compliance with planned maintenance systems with respect to hull, machinery & equipment and safety equipment against regulations and best practice
•Carrying out regular visits to the vessels for inspecting the safety equipment, machinery and equipment and reporting on the condition. Evaluating the shipboard management system as appropriate with regard to the standards of safety on board, emergency procedures, contingency plans, environmental protection procedures, bridge and engine room procedures, planned maintenance procedures, training, quality of goods and services, compliance with standing / issued instructions, circulars, etc
•Reviewing monthly reports received from the vessels and providing technical support and feedback to ship staff
•Liaison with fleet personnel department for continuous, efficient manning of the vessel
•Carrying out internal audits and routine inspections
•Ensuring that the requirements of the contractual agreement with respect to technical management of the vessel are met
•Providing on board training in technical, ISM, ISPS and regulatory subjects; Encouraging and motivating ship staff and monitoring onboard training
•Familiarizing himself with latest local, national and international rules and regulations and applicable upcoming requirements
•Specifying and approving quality and quantity of goods (stores, spares) and services (repairs, overhauls, dry docking, agency, sub-contracts). Certifies invoices for payment; Reviewing technical documents and comparing them against relevant regulations
•Participating in periodic review of the management system to promote safety & quality with particular emphasis on identification and planning of special or critical operations (activities, tasks) which could directly affect safety or could lead to accidents/damages/pollution.
•Any other task assigned by management for the safe and satisfactory operations of the ship.
